Namaste Banepa

Almost since we started we have been raising money for our favourite cause in Nepal.

It is called Namaste Banepa and they help children from poor families to go to school. http://www.namastebanepa.com/

This is achieved by a combination of buying the books , uniforms and equipment that the kids need  and encouraging the parents to allow their kids to go to school rather than work at home.

It is entirely run by voluntary efforts. All running costs are covered by the volunteers.

In effect, we need to raise about £100 to keep 1 child in school for 1 year.

Over the last year, our lovely customers donated  £564.34.  We have added a little over £250 to this amount.  This means together 8/9 kids will get to stay in school for another year, whereas otherwise they would not.

Thankyou - Mypashmina Customers

I have just added up the donations to NamasteBanepa from Mypashmina customers for the last year.

The total was £609.35. Thank you very much on behalf of the children helped by Namaste Banepa.

This years total is about one-third of the previous year. This quite clearly shows the impact a recession has on charitable giving. It's unfortunate , but understandable.

In the year we received 3 donations of £50 , so as promised have added £150 to the total.

The total of £759 is enough to sponsor about 15 children through school for a year , so it will make a real difference to those peoples lives.

Mypashmina gives 185,400Nprs to Namaste Banepa

Thanks to all the Mypashmina customers that have donated to our favourite charity - Namaste Banepa. In the last year you have raised over £1500. I would like to especially thank the 7 people who donated £50 - as promised I matched your donations, so its an extra £350 in the pot.

We are in Kathmandu now, and have just been to visit the person who runs Namaste Banepa. His name is Sudarson Karki, and he spends his time making films to promote awareness about issues in Nepal.

Nepalese children sing a song for peace. In this video some children are from a school in Banepa near Kathmandu, and some are from an international school in Kathmandu. The children from Banepa come from poor families and are supported by a charity called Namaste Banepa (namastebanepa.com). The pay for books, clothes and fees. They also take time to persuade parents that it is better for the kids to be in school rather than helping them on the land.
